For bicyclists who feel that Dallas can’t build bicycle paths fast enough to connect people to places where they want to ride, a new trail will be opening on Saturday, April 14 at 9:00 am.  The 12-foot wide 2.2 mile long trail which connects several public and private schools, as well as churches, stretches along Oncor’s power easement just north of Royal Lane from Central Expressway to Preston Road.  By sometime in 2014, money allocated from Dallas County will help connect the trail from Central Expressway to the White Rock Trail.  Bicyclists will eventually be able to connect with the DART Forest Lane Station.

The trail was originally supposed to be a total of 9.4 miles in length and traverse Northwest Dallas all the way to Campion Trail in Irving.  However, that extension is on indefinite hold due to lack of funding from the City of Dallas.  The lack of city money however may be the perfect opportunity for North Dallas residents to place their altruistic mentalities on the line.  Friends of Northaven Trail, a volunteer organization for the support, maintenance and beautification of the Northaven Trail, will give community members the opportunity to make donations from $100 to $1 million, and Dallas County will match any funds given.  Those who do donate will receive inscriptions on bricks and benches.  Crape Myrtle Members will be those who donate $2,500, Bluebonnet Members will donate $1,000, and Wild Flower Members will donate $500

Where can you currently ride on your bicycle in the City of Dallas?
