City State Journal is a brand new publication which will be published on-line each month and focus on the continual improvement of the central city in the aesthetic, artistic, commercial, educational, environmental, and social realms. It has the goal to continually improve what it offers to the public as far as the quality of its writing, the information that it covers, and the opportunities that it offers to involve interested people in helping to make the central city a better place to live. City State Journal will be a for-profit venture which offers to its readership free articles each month and will be supported in the beginning from books that it offers on the site, and google ads, Additional monetization strategies will be added in subsequent periods that serve the interests of this site as well as provide an opportunity for people to contribute to projects that the site desires to accomplish. Since the 1990's, American planners have been infatuated with community designs from past decades or centuries. Here we look at an early American city through the eyes of a businessman, and contrast his views with a fairly humorous poem about the same city. What is beautiful about the US Constitution? We look very briefly at an early American painting. As we consider what we want Western civilization to look like, a man who has been refined by the fires of Eastern Europe, holds some cautionary flags. The founding of the Ivy League was meant by far-sighted leaders to be a gift to America's future. Two men educated in them left an indelible mark on American history. America's oldest city park has been the center of attention for almost 400 years. Finally, tradition or change or both?
